Man accused of killing tigers and deer in Sundarbans arrested in Bagerhat

Police have arrested a man, accused in eight cases filed for killing tigers and deer in the Sundarbans of Bagerhat.

Habib Talukder alias Bagh Habib (52) was arrested on Friday night from Sonatala village in Sharankhola upazila.

A local court yesterday afternoon sent Habib to jail after police produced him before the court in the cases, our local correspondent reports.

Joynal Abedin, Sharankhola Range Officer of the Sundarbans, said Habib was a listed criminal. Arrest warrants were issued earlier against him in three of the cases, he added.

Sharankhola Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidur Rahman said police have been looking for him for a long time.

Based on secret information, they raided Madhya Sonatala village and arrested Habib while he was sleeping at the house of one Rafiqul in the area, the OC said.

Divisional Forest Officer Mohammad Belayat Hossain also confirmed the arrest.
