Gazipur city councillor arrested for ‘forcing minor into prostitution’

Gazipur City Corporation Councillor Roksana Ahmed Rozi has been arrested in a case filed against her for forcing a 16-year-old girl into prostitution.

Rapid Action Battalion-1 arrested Rozi, councillor from reserved seats (Ward no. 16, 17 and 18), from Dhaka's Dakshin Khan area around 9:00pm yesterday, said Lt Commandar Abdullah Al Mamun, company commander of Rab-1 Porabari camp.

The girl filed the case against five people, including Rozi and caretaker of her house Nurul Haque, with Basan Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police on Tuesday. 

Nurul Haque was arrested soon after the case was filed, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

In the case, the victim alleged that Rozi is running a beauty parlour at a shopping mall in Gazipur city's Chandana intersection.

Hailing from Netrakona, the victim joined the parlour four months back but Rozi force her to work as domestic help at her house in Great Wall area.

Rozi had also been forcing the girl into prostitution with the help of caretaker Nurul for the last two months, according to the case statement. 

The girl managed to flee the house on Tuesday and filed the case.
