Farmer hacked to death over land dispute in Feni
A farmer was hacked to death and two of his brothers were severely injured over a land-related dispute in Sonagazi upazila of Feni.
The deceased was identified as Belayet Hossain Belal (45). His injured brothers, Nona Mia (45) and Nur Nabi Masud (30), were admitted to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex after the incident and later transferred to Feni General Hospital, reports a correspondent.
The incident took place in Char Darbesh union in the upazila earlier today. Police have held seven people over the incident. The detainees are: Abdur Shukkur (70), his son Abul Hashem (45), brother Abdul Malek (75), son-in-law Nizam Uddin (45), grandson Md Mintu (25), Bahar Ullah (30) and Sheikh Farid (20).
According to police and locals, Belal had a land-related dispute with neighbour Abul Hashem. Early today, he was attacked by the family of Abul Hashem with knives and sticks. Belal's brothers were also beaten when they tried to rescue him.
Later, they were taken to the local health complex, where on-duty doctor declared Belal dead. Upon receiving the news, the police detained seven people involved in the incident and seized several locally-made weapons from the spot.
Sonagazi Model Police Officer-in-Charge Sajedul Islam confirmed the incident.
