54 more detained from Dhaka’s Hatirjheel for ‘harassing visitors’

Police yesterday detained 54 more boys from Dhaka's Hatirjheel area on charge of "harassing visitors and causing nuisance".

Forty-three of them were later handed over to their parents while steps were taken against the remaining 11 under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, says a press release sent by Police Headquarters.

Police have been conducting the drives since January 27 after a citizen complained to the Police Headquarters' (PHQ) Facebook page that people are being harassed during their visits at Hatirjheel.

So far, 343 were detained but most of them were later handed over to their guardians.

The drives will continue, police said.
