SC clears way for Habiganj mayor to resume duties

The Supreme Court today cleared the way for Habiganj municipality Mayor GK Gaus to resume his official duties.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain upheld a High Court order staying the suspension order of Gaus.

The chamber judge of the apex court passed “no order” on a petition filed by the government seeking stay on the HC order.

Gaus’ lawyer Advocate M Masud Rana told The Daily Star that the HC order of stay on the suspension of Gaus will remain in force following the SC order.

Therefore, there is no legal bar for Gaus to resume his duties as the Habiganj municipality Mayor, he added.

Following a writ petition, the HC on April 4 stayed the LGRD Ministry’s order suspending Gaus from the office after a Habiganj court accepted charge sheet against him in a criminal case.
