Youth killed over trifling matter

A youth was stabbed to death in Mirzapur upazila in yesterday allegedly over a trifling matter.

The deceased, Alimul Mollah, 30, son of Selim Mollah of Baimhati village, was a sweeper of Mirzapur municipality.

Police said a couple was engaged in a quarrel on the road around 11:00am and some locals including Alimul went there to stop them from quarrelling.

Meanwhile, an altercation occurred between Alimul and Sabbir, 35, a guard of a local private hospital, on the spot over a trifling matter. At one stage, angry Sabbir took a knife from a nearby shop and stabbed Alimul on the abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.

Local people rushed Alimul to Kumudini Hospital from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, but he died on way to the hospital.

OC of Mirzapur Police Station Rizaul Haque Dipu said Sabbir went into hiding soon after the incident.
