Youth held for rape, murder in Dhaka

Police today claimed to have arrested a man for killing a girl after rape in Lalbagh of Dhaka on the Eid day.

The arrestee is identified as Riaz, 24, hailing from Deegholdee village of Bangla Bazar area in Bhola Sadar upazila, said Khandaker Rabiul Arafat Lelin, assistant commissioner of DB (south) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

According to the police official, Riaz, a caretaker of a house in Islambagh area, raped the 18 years old girl, who was a worker of a shoe factory in the area on the Eid day, the DB official said quoting the victim’s family members.

At one stage, Riaz strangled the girl and threw the body on the rooftop of a nearby house after tying a scarf around her neck, the lawman said.

Later, the victim’s mother Halima lodged a case with Chawkbazar Police Station.

Police arrested Riaz from his village house in Bhola.

The arrestee was produced before a Dhaka court where he gave his confessional statement over the murder, the DB official added.
