Woman tortured for refusing advances
Victim of brutal torture at Hilalpur village in Khoksa upazila under the district on Monday, a woman is undergoing treatment at Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.
The woman, Samela Khatun, 38, wife of Montu Sheikh, fell into the wrath of two youths after she rejected their proposal of illicit act and went to police station with an allegation against them.
Touhidul Islam, 30, son of Badsha Mia, and Sumon Hossain, 20, son of Abdul Hakim of the same village, often gave her proposal for illicit relationship, goes the statement of the case filed by the victim, also mother of two children.
On Sunday evening, the woman went to Khoksa Police Station as the culprits threatened to kill her after being rejected again.
A police team picked up the youths and took them to the police station on the night but they were released shortly afterwards.
On Monday morning, the two youths along with their friends stormed into Samela's house, dragged her out and beat her mercilessly, said the victim.
Then they tied the woman to a mango tree and cut off her hair.
The incident took place in front of a number of people of the village but none dared to come forward to save her.
Later one Sima Khatun of the village took the victim to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.
Informed, Samela's husband Montu Sheikh, who works at a brick kiln in Bagerhat, returned home and went to Khoksa Police Station for filing a case on Monday night but police allegedly declined to record the case.
Later, police recorded the case yesterday afternoon. Eight people including Touhid and Sumon were made accused in the case.
Police are trying to arrest the culprits, said Daud Hossain, officer in charge of Khoksa Police Station.
