Woman kills son, self with poison in Pabna

A woman allegedly poisoned her son and self to death following a family feud at Bahorpur village in Ishwardi upazila of the district on Friday.

The deceased are Papia Sultana, 30, wife of Mizanur Rahman of the village, and her three-year-old son Jibon Hossain, 3.

Quoting family members, Biman Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, said Mizanur and Papia often engaged in altercation over family matters.

On Friday night, Papia took poison after feeding the same to her two sons -- Jibon Hossain and Emon Hossain, 5 -- following an altercation with Mizanur over a family matter.

The three were sent to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared the two dead. Emon was later shifted to Pabna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said police.

The law enforcers later arrested husband Mizanur on charge of instigating suicidal attempt, said the OC.
