Woman allegedly gang-raped in Noakhali

Accusations have surfaced of a woman being gang-raped after drugged by the culprits in Sadar upazila of Noakhali today.

The victim brought the allegation against ten persons -- Siraj, Shafikul, Foyej, Selim, Joynal, Latif, Ajijul Huque, Shamsul Huque, Mithu and Dulal -- all of them are residents of Charuria village under the upazila, said Abdul Baten Mridha, inspector (investigation) of Sudharam Model Police Station.

According to the victim, four of the accused earlier took money from her on promise of selling her some land. But they never gave any land to her despite repeated requests, the police official said quoting the victim.  

In line with this, the accused persons called the victim to one Ajijul Huque’s house saying that they would give her the papers of the land.

There, they offered her drugged biscuits and when she fell unconscious, they took turns to rape her, Inspector Baten said.

The victim has been rescued and admitted to Noakhali General Hospital. If the victim files a complaint with police, necessary actions will be taken, he added.

The matter of rape can be ascertained after medical test, said Syed Mohiuddin Abdul Ajim, resident medical officer of the hospital.
