Star Online Report

The High Court today issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why four under-trial female prisoners of Kashimpur jail, Gazipur should not be granted bail.
Prisoners Sumi Akter Reshma and Shanaj Begum from Narayanganj, Razia Sultana from Gazipur and Rani alias Nupur from Mymensingh have been in the jail since 2009 in four separate murder cases. But their trial proceedings are yet to be finished.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JMB Hasan came up with the suo moto rule after Supreme Court Legal Aid committee member Ainul Nahar Siddiqua placed their case documents.
The legal aid committee has collected the information from the jail authorities.
The HC also directed the jail authorities to produce the four detained women before the court on January 16 for hearing their statements.
