Two to walk gallows for murder in Kushtia

A Kushtia court yesterday sentenced two people to death for killing a youth in Mirpur upazila of the district in 2011.

The death penalty awardees are Rubel Hossain, 33, son of Amir Uddin, and Sujon Ali, 23, son of Mura Ali, of Dighalkandi village in the upazila.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Reza Mohammad Alamgir pronounced the verdict in presence of the two.

According to the case statement, Rubel and Sujon called Sabuj, 23, of the same village on September 9, 2011. They later killed Sabuj by slitting his throat, dumped his body near Mirpur Railway Station and took away his motorbike and cellphone. Sabuj's body was found the following morning.

Victim's uncle Monirul Islam filed a case with Mirpur Police Station, accusing Rubel and Sujon on the day. On September 18, police arrested the two and recovered the bike and cellphone from their possession.
