Two fined Tk 12 lakh for encroaching upon canal in Brahmanbaria

Department of Environment (DoE) (Chattogram region) fined two people Tk 12 lakh in connection with filling up a 30,000 square feet canal in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila today.

The fine was imposed after a hearing in Chattogram's Khulshi area.

Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram region told The Daily Star that Uzzal Mia who is an inhabitant of Panisshar area of Sarail filled up a portion 24,000 square feet of a canal and was fined Tk nine lakh.

On the other hand, another man named Suman Munsi hailing from the same area filled up 6,000 square feet of the same canal. Suman was fined Tk three lakh.

They have also been asked to restore the canal to its previous condition.
