Two bodies found in Lalmonirhat rivers
The bodies of an unidentified woman and a youth have been found in the Teesta and Dharla rivers of Sadar and Patgram upazilas under the district on Friday.
Police recovered the bodies from the rivers at noon, said Lalmonirhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Abida Sultana.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, she said.
Police and villagers said locals found the body of an unidentified woman, aged about 27, floating in the Teesta river at Pashchimpara village in Khuniagachh union of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila and informed the law enforcers. Sadar police later recovered the body from the river and sent it to a hospital for autopsy.
On the other hand, local people saw the body of an unidentified young man in the Dharla river in ghat area of Burimari union under Patgram upazila. Being informed, Patgram police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The identity of the youth, aged about 24, could not be known immediately, said the police official.
Locals suspect that the two bodies might have been washed away by the river water in India. The victims might have hailed from any part of India.
SP Abida said the bodies have been sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police are trying to find out identities of the two deceased, Abida added.
