Train accidents: 2 killed in Faridpur, 1 killed, another critically injured in Lalmonirhat

Two people died in a train accident in Faridpur, while a man was killed and another critically injured in a separate train accident in Lalmonirhat today.

In Faridpur, two passengers of a local passenger vehicle were crushed under a train while another was injured at the Bhangar Jandi area on the Rajbari-Bhanga rail line.

The deceased were cousins Rafiq Matubbar (25) and Sohail Matubbar (20) of Shibchar upazila of Madaripur. The injured is Abul Matubbar (45), currently undergoing treatment at Bhanga Upazila Health Complex, reports our Faridpur correspondent quoting Khandaker Jommadar, Bhanga Fire Station head.

"Of the deceased, one died on the spot while the other at the health complex," said the fire station chief.

In Lalmonirhat, tractor worker Hamidul Islam was killed after he both two hands and a leg during a collision between a Burimari-bound passenger train and the sand-carrying tractor at a level crossing at Hatibandha upazila on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari rail route around 3:00pm today.

Haimul died while undergoing treatment at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said police.

Atikul Islam, another tractor worker, was seriously injured at the time. Both hail from Dakshin Gaddimari village in the upazila, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent, quoting witnesses on the spot.

The tractor driver however, escaped without any injuries, they said.

"Atikul's condition is critical," Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ershadul Alam told this correspondent.

"The accident took place as there is no gate or gateman at the Dighirhat level crossing," said Monowar Hossain Dulu, chairman of Singimara Union Parishad.
