Trafficker held with three kids in Dinajpur

A human trafficker was arrested with three minor children in Hakimpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, police said.

The arrestee is Mofizul Islam, 30, son of Awlad Hossain of Telabatul-Munshipara under Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat district.

The rescued children are Riya Moni, 10, daughter of Enamul Haque of Itabawna village, her 6 year-old brother Alif Rahman Joy, and Mehedul Islam Mahin, 6, son of Mahfuzar Rahman of Hakimpur municipality area.

Family members said the three children were playing at Hili Railway Station while their parents were waiting for a train. At around 10:00am, the parents found their children missing.

Hearing of the incident, locals raised an alarm as they knew the place was conducive to trafficking the children because it was a border area.

Later, locals of Uttarbasudevpur village in Hakimpur upazila found the children being taken to the border on a rickshaw van. They caught Mofizul with the three missing children, beat him up and later handed him over to the police.

Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur Police Station, said a case was filed with the police station concerned in this connection.
