Traffic police dies with Covid-19 symptoms in Chattogram

A traffic police constable showing some Covid-19 symptoms died at Chattogram General Hospital today.

Naimul Haque ,38, hailing from Cumilla's Debidar upazila, was attached with Traffic Port division of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), our staff correspondent reports.

He was admitted to the general hospital last night with breathing difficulties.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Tarek Ahmed of CMP's Traffic Port division told The Daily Star, "He reported breathing problems along with some other physical illness and admitted to the hospital 9:45pm yesterday."

He died at around 12:01pm today, the DC said, adding his wife and three children have been kept in home quarantine after his death.

His sample was collected for a coronavirus test, the police official said.

So far 44 policemen under the CMP have been infected with the virus till today. Two civilian staffers and three family members of the police personnel also tested Covid-19 positive.

Apart from that, three constables of the industrial police in Chattogram tested Covid-19 positive last night.

Besides, a sub-inspector of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-7 also tested positive for coronavirus.
