Tough action against corruption over coronavirus relief material: LGRD ministry

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry today issued an order today saying that they would go for tough action against people who are involved in corruption regarding coronavirus relief materials.

The order comes following reports of irregularities over relief materials, both in rural and urban areas of the country.

Owing to the coronavirus outbreak, many people are having to stay home and have no means of income. As such, different ministries, organisations and local government institutions have started distributing relief materials among those in need.

Public representatives and locals have been helping in distributing the relief materials but some reports have been coming through social media and different newspapers that local government representatives are involved in corruption, the order added.

The ministry will terminate any public representative of the local government institutions and its officials and take legal action if any irregularities are found.
