Three schoolgirls saved from early marriage
Three schoolgirls were saved from early marriage in Natore town and Sadar upazila on Monday night.
They are Krisna Das, 11, Class VI student of Jangli Girl's High School and daughter of Bikash Das of Hugalbaria area of Natore town; Bristy Saha, 14, Class IX student of Sugar Mills High School and daughter of Bikash Saha of the same area; and Priya Khatun, 10, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Ulupur village in the .
Being informed, a mobile court led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Nairuzzamanrushed went to Hugalbaria area and saved Bristy Saha from underage marriage.
Later, the mobile court saved Krisna Das from underage marriage in the same area.
The UNO took undertakings from both the girls' parents not to marry them off before they reached 18 years of age.
The same mobile court saved another girl from early marriage at Ulipur village of the upazila. Her parents arranged the marriage without her consent, Priya Khatun said.
A group of local youths informed the UNO about the matter. He along with police rushed to the spot and stopped the marriage.
However, the girl's father and the bridegroom managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the UNO. Police said they are raiding different areas to arrest the duo.
Away in Thakurgaon, A mobile court on Sunday fined an assistant marriage registrar and bridegroom's father for arranging her early marriage in the municipality area.
The court fined assistant marriage registrar Kazi Md Abdul Malek Tk 5,000 and bridegroom's father Shahidul Islam Tk1,000, reports our correspondent.
Being informed by a local over cellphone, a mobile court led by Assistant Commissioner (land) Md Rashedul Haque Prodhan went to a house in Gobindanagar area in the municipality and foiled the early marriage of Rozina Akhter, 16, daughter of late Shafi Mohammad of the municipality.
The UNO took undertakings from marriage registrar Kazi Abdul Malek and bridegroom's father Shahidul Islam not to arrange child marriage further.
