Three kids of a family drown

Three kids of a family drowned in a pond at Mamunshia village in Kotchandpur upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Ria Khatun, 10, and her younger sister Rima Khatun, 8, daughters of Joynal Mondal, and their cousin Murad Hossain, 12, son of Nani Mia of the village.

Of them, Ria and Murad were students of Class IV, while Rima was a Class III student at Mamunshia Government Primary School.

Quoting the victims' family members, police said the three cousins fell into a pond near their house while playing on its bank and drowned around 11:00am.

After frantic search locals recovered their floating bodies from the pond and took them to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared the kids dead, Officer-in-Charge Ahmed Kabir of Kotchandpur Police Station said.
