Suspected drug peddlers attack BGB men in Benapole, one injured
A group of drug peddlers allegedly attacked members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during the seizure of phensidyl bottles from Daulatpur frontier earlier today.
An alleged drug peddler, Rahmat Ali (26) sustained injuries as the BGB men opened fire in self-defence, our Benapole correspondent reports.
Saiful Islam, Nayek Subedar of BGB Battalion-21, said that BGB members chased a group of drug peddlers when they were entering Bangladesh from India through the border in the early hours of today.
Wielding sharp weapons, the criminals attacked the BGB men at Balurmath, forcing the latter to fire back three rounds, he said.
Later Rahmat Ali was found bullet-injured while his cohorts fled the scene, Nayek Subedar Saiful said.
Rahmat was rushed to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex and was later shifted to Jashore General Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
A total of 97 bottles of phensidyl and a sharp weapon were recovered from the spot.
