Sukhi finally sits for exams

Sukhi Akhter, 10, who continued receiving death threat from the alleged killers of her father, took part in the Primary Terminal Examinations started yesterday, thanks to the Patuakhali district commissioner and police.

The girl, who stopped going to school after receiving the threat from the men of accused Anwar Hossain, participated in the examinations at Purbo Boro Bighai High School centre in Sadar upazila with the help of Sadar police, said SI Mehedi Hasan.

Local administration took the initiative after a report in The Daily Star titled 'Case puts justice seekers in danger' was published on November 14.

Sukhi thanked the media and local administration for helping her to appear in the exam.

Sukhi and her aunt Taslima continued facing death threat soon after filing of the murder case.

On October 21, farmer Shah Jamal Gazi went out of home after receiving a phone call from neighbour Anwar. Later, he was found dead near a fish enclosure.
