Smooth power supply in Barguna town demanded

A human chain was formed in Barguna district town yesterday, demanding uninterrupted power supply and setting up of a 132-KV grid sub station in the town.

Zila Nagorik Odhikar Sangrakkhon Committee, a social organisation, organised the programme in front of Barguna Press Club where people from all walks of life took part.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to the power and energy minister through the deputy commissioner.

The hour-long programme ended with a street corner meeting presided over by advocate Anisur Rahman, acting chairman of the organisation.

Md Jahangir Kabir, secretary of Barguna district unit of Awami League, SM Nazrul Islam, secretary of the district unit of BNP, Hasanur Rahman Jhantu, president of the press club, and Dilip Karmakar, vice president of Barguna Chamber of Commerce and Industries, among others, spoke.

At least eight lakh people of Barguna are facing severe load shedding for long, they said.

Power department assured setting up a 132-KV power sub station in the town to resolve the problem last year but it is yet to be implemented, they said.
