SI electrocuted

A police officer accidentally died from electrocution at Atghoria Police Station premises on Saturday night.

The deceased, Dulal Hossain, 47, son of late Abed Ali of Hasanpur village in Rajshahi's Bagmara upazila, was a sub inspector (SI) at Atghoria Police Station.

Officer in Charge (OC) of the police station Hafizur Rahman said the police station was decorated with colourful lights marking the country's 50 years of independence.

The incident occurred when SI Dulal came in contact with a live electric wire while he was talking over mobile phone around 11:00pm on Saturday.

Later, fellow policemen rescued him and took him to Atghoria Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Dulal dead, the OC said, adding that the body was handed over to the victim's family members yesterday.
