Family members of Ahmed Shafi today alleged that Hefajat-e-Islami Amir Junayed Babunagari and leader Mamunul Haque have been threatening them to withdraw the case filed over Shafi's death.

Md Moin Uddin, brother-in-law of Ahmed Shafi, brought the allegation at a press conference arranged by Shafi's family at Chattogram Press Club.

In a written statement, he said they have been threatened to stop them from speaking the truth about Shafi's death.

"The situation worsened when we filed a case with court which ordered the PBI [Police Bureau of Investigation] to look into it," he claimed.

Why are they [Babunagari and Mamunul] scared if they are not involved in Shafi's murder, Moin asked, urging the government to unearth the murder plot.

Terming Hefajat an apolitical organisation, he said it was now being used for political gain by Babunagari.
