Section 144 imposed in Barguna over meeting of 2 potential UP chairman candidates

Section 144 was imposed today at Goskhali Bazar in Barguna's Amtali upazila fearing clashes may break out as two UP chairman candidates called meetings at the same time and place.

It was effective from 2:00pm to 5:00pm today and was announced earlier in the area, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting the Amtali Upazila Aministration.

The present Goskhali UP Chairman and President of the Union Awami League Advocate Nurul Islam called the meeting as he did not manage Awami League nomination in the upcoming UP polls. On the other hand, Goskhali Union Jubo League and Chhatra League called another meeting at the same place and time to welcome Awami League nominated candidate AHM Monirul Islam Moni.

"The upazila administration noticed the matter that two meetings of two groups were being planned and there was a fear of clash," said Amtali upazila nirbahi officer Md Asaduzzaman.

"From 2:00pm to 5:00pm today, all types of gatherings within Goskhali Bazar and 200 yards around it were banned," said the UNO.
