Save river, protect Chalan Beel

Save the River committee in Natore held a boat march in Chalan Beel area from Gurudaspur to Bagatipara upazilas in the district yesterday.
Shah Newaz Ali Mollah, mayor of Gurudaspur municipality, led the programme.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The boat march started from the Gururdaspur at about 8:00am and reached Ramaigari area of Bagatipara at about 2:00pm.
The organisers held a rally there.
The speakers at the rally demanded the removal of the sluice gates and other barriers in the Baral river flowing through Chalan Beel, a vast water body.
Around 20 rivers in Chalan Beel area are dying due to the shortage of water and so, the crop cultivation in the nearby areas is hampered, they said.
