Robbers loot 10 vehicles, stab 11 passengers
Armed robbers looted cash and valuables from passengers of 10 vehicles, including buses and trucks, on Kushtia-Chuadanga highway on Friday night.
The gang beat up and stabbed at least 11 people as they tried to resist. They are undergoing treatment at different clinics and hospitals.
Atiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, said the robbers put logs on the road and stopped the vehicles in Asannagar area of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga district at about 11:30pm. They took away gold ornaments, mobile phones and money from the passengers.
No one was arrested in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
Away in Jhenidah, police arrested a member of an inter-district robber's gang from Kaliganj-Chuadanga road at Patbila area under Kaliganj upazila of the district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee is Moktar Hossain, 38, son of Liakot Sheikh of Mohishapara under Lohagara upazila in Narail district.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, said, on information that a gang was preparing to commit robberies on night coaches at Patbila area, police raided the spot and arrested Moktar, while the rest managed to flee.
Police recovered a pipe gun and one bullet from his possession. After interrogation, he was sent to a Jhenidah court, which sent him to jail.
