Robber killed in clash with rivals

An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with his rivals at Matarbari Connecting Road in Maheshkhali upazila early yesterday. Didarul Ferdous, officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station, said two local gangs had long been at loggerheads over committing robbery in the area. As a result of the rivalry, members of one gang opened fire on the other gang, triggering a gunfight at about 1:00am, leaving Murad injured. Informed, police rushed to the spot and took Murad, 27, to Maheshkhali Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries later. Other members of both the gangs managed to flee the scene. The law enforcers recovered two country-made pistols and six bullets from the spot. Murad's body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
