Road crashes kill 8 in three dists

Eight people were killed and 40 injured in three separate road accidents in Munshiganj, Bogra and Magura districts today.

Of them, four people were killed in Munshiganj, two each in Bogra and Magura districts.

Munshiganj

Four people were killed and 25 injured in a collision between two buses on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sirajdikhan upazila's Nimtola area, reports our local correspondent.

Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Md Jayedul Alam said the accident took place as a bus of Gangchil Paribahan collided head-on with a bus of Prachesta Paribahan this afternoon, leaving three men and a woman dead on the spot and 25 injured.

The injured people were taken to different local hospitals and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

One of the deceased was identified as Saidul Islam, 20, while the others were unidentified.

The bodies were kept at DMCH.

Bogra

A bus collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Bogra highway at Mirzapur Ambagan in Sherpur upazila around 3:00am, leaving two people dead and 16 injured, UNB reports quoting Erfan Ali, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Police Station.

The injured people were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where one of them succumbed around 8:30am, the OC added.

The identities of the two victims could not be known immediately.

Magura

Two persons -- Kuddus Biswas, 60, and Md Ibrahim, 35 -- were killed as a pick-up van hit their bicycle in Magura town, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

The bodies were kept in the district's Sadar Hospital morgue, the daily reported quoting Mostafizur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Magura Sadar Police Station.
