Rape of college girl sparks outcry in Pabna

Rape of a college girl of Punduria village in Santhia upazila under the district has sparked protest.

The 21-year-old victim, a second year student of history department of Pabna Edward College, was gang-raped on Sunday. She is now undergoing treatment at Pabna Medical College Hospital.

"When I was going to attend a religious programme in the area on Sunday night, a gang of 4/5 raped me," the girl told this correspondent at the hospital bed yesterday.

The victim's father filed a case, accusing four people, said Officer-in-charge of Santhia Police Station Nasir Uddin.

The accused include Faridul Islam and Hafizul Islam, residents of the village, the OC said, adding that they went into hiding soon after the incident.

Teachers and students of the college demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the rapists of the girl belonging to a Hindu family at the village.

They will stage demonstration in the town today to realise the demand, said Humayun Kabir, principal of the college.

In Meherpur, a five-year old girl has been raped at Dhola village in Gangni upazila of the district, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

OC Akram Hossan of Gangni Police Station said one Parvej Ali, a nasimon driver, allured the girl promising her sweetmeat, took her to a nearby field and raped her.

The victim's father filed a case, accusing Parvej, the OC said, adding that they are raiding different areas to arrest the culprit.
