Rape of 5-year-old: Saiful sent to jail after remand

Saiful Islam, the alleged rapist of a five-year-old girl at Jamirhat village in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur, was sent to jail at the end of his seven-day remand yesterday.

Judge Krishna Komol Roy of Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in Dinajpur, who had earlier granted the remand, ordered sending Saiful to jail after police produced him before the court.

Police arrested him from Gor-e-Shahid Moydan in Dinajpur town on October 24 on charge of raping the girl on October 18.

"During the remand, police got some information relevant to the case but the accused did not confess his involvement in the crime. We will seek his remand again if required," said Mahfuzzaman Ashraf, additional superintendent of police of Dinajpur.

The victim kid is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she was brought from Rangpur Medical College Hospital on October 24.

Meanwhile, Afzal Hossain, 48, another accused in the rape case, is yet to be arrested.
