Public prosecutor murder in Shariatpur: Lawyers observe work abstention rejecting verdict
The lawyers of Shariatpur Bar Association today observed a "work abstention" programme in all the courts, expressing their dissatisfaction towards Sunday's judgement in the case filed over the killing of Public Prosecutor Habibur Rahman and his brother 19 years ago.
At an emergency general meeting, the lawyers today decided to boycott the court of Shariatpur's Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Showkat Hossain until he is withdrawn from it, said Zahirul Islam, president of Shariatpur Bar Association.
Witnesses said around 50 lawyers led by Shariatpur municipality mayor Parvej Rahman John made a protest rally at the court premises during work hours, rejecting the verdict.
Advocate John, also elder son of victim Habibur Rahman, claimed that some main culprits were acquitted from the charges in the case.
However, court sources said the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the acquitted accused as the statements of most prosecution witnesses were very weak.
