Poppy fields found in Bandarban

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today found and destroyed some poppy fields in a remote hilly area in Ruma upazila of Bandarban today.

Acting on tip off, a team of Rab-7 launched a drive near Keokradong, the country's highest mountain, and found poppy being grown there, Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, assistant director of Rab’s legal and media wing told The Daily Star.

Poppy plants are key ingredients used in the production of opium, which can be used to make heroin and other synthetic opioids.
