Polls violence leaves 14 hurt

At least 14 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of two member candidates in Charduany union under Patharghat upazila of the district on Saturday night.

Police and locals said the clash took place when the supporters of member candidate Sagir Mia swooped on his rival candidate Kabir Mollah's men, who were having meal at his house at Motherkhali village at around 10:30pm. At least 14 people from both sides were injured in the clash that continued for half an hour.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The injured are Akbar Ali Mollah, 40, Jasim Uddin, 30, Tariqul Islam, 28, Miraj Hossain, 30, Dulal Mia, 32, Nizam Uddin, 35, Bellal Mia, 36, Idris Mia, 34, Sagir Hossain, 35, Raja Mia, 32, Akkel Ali, 40, Abdul Jalil, 30, Nanna Mia, 40 and Sultan Mia, 42.
