Polls in Singair municipality today

Election to Singair municipality of the district will be held today. As many as 20,014 voters will exercise their right to elect a mayor, eight councillors and three women councillors (reserved).

The election was scheduled to be held on December 30, 2015, but it was postponed by the High Court following a writ petition concerning demarcation of the boundary of the municipality.

Six candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 33 candidates for the posts of councillors and seven candidates for three reserved women councillor posts.

Following the death of Md Jamal Uddin, a councillor candidate of ward No 1, the returning officer postponed the election for the councillor post of that ward, said Md Munier Hossain, district election officer and returning officer.
