Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed after seven hours of disruption caused by dense fog yesterday morning.

Mahiuddin Russel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha, said they kept ferry services and plying of water vessels suspended from 2:30am to 9:30am due to low visibility because of dense fog.

Seven ferries --'Khan Jahan Ali,' 'Shah Makhdum,' 'Kumari,' 'Madhabilata,' 'Hasnahena,' 'Rajanigandha' and 'Shapla Shaluk' -- lay motionless in the middle of the Padma.

Eight ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers on board lay anchored at Paturia and one ferry at Daulatdia.

Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles had to be kept waiting on both sides of the river.

Ferry services on the important route resumed around 9:30am as fog started disappearing with sunrise.
