Panchagarh Sugar Mill workers stage demonstration for reopening of mills

Sugar mill workers and sugarcane growers demonstrated in Panchagarh Sadar today demanding reopening of six state-owned sugar mills including Panchagarh Sugar Mill.

They demonstrated in front of their mill gate under the banner of Panchagarh Sugar Mills Workers' Union and Panchagarh Central Sugarcane Growers, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

They demanded authorities concerned to restore cane crashing in the current season instead of sending canes to Thakurgaon Sugar Mill for the sake of employment of their staffers' and ensure earning source of cane growers.    

They also demanded due salaries of the employees and also due of the growers immediately.

They placed a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Sabina Yasmin regarding their demands.

If their demands would not be met within short time, they will launch a tough movement from December 15, the protesters said.
