Panchagarh police and firefighters rescue woman, her newborn from under a bridge
Police and firefighters today rescued a mother and her newborn baby, along with another four-year-old girl, from under a bridge in Panchagarh.
Being informed that a 35-year-old woman, hailing from Ramdanga area under Panchagarh municipality, had given birth to a baby under Karatoa Bridge this noon, police and firefighters went to the spot and rescued the duo, a fire official said.
They were taken to Panchagarh Sadar Modern Hospital where they are now undergoing treatment, our local correspondent reports quoting Niranjan Sarkar, station officer of Panchagarh Fire Service and Civil Defence office.
Both the woman and her baby are doing fine, said Siraj-Ud-Doullah, residential doctor of the hospital.
The woman, along with a four-year-old girl, had been homeless for the last month, police said.
Mohammad Yusuf Ali, superintendent of Panchagarh Police, said primarily police will bear the expenses of the mother and her child.
Further steps will be taken after consulting with the her, he added.
