Over 100 policemen fall sick after eating restaurant food in Cumilla

More than 100 police members, who were deployed for duty at by-election to Brahmanpara Upazila Parishad in Cumilla, fell sick after eating at a local restaurant last night.

Confirming the matter, Nazmul Alam, officer-in-charge of Brahmanpara Police Station, said at least 33 of the policemen and eight drivers of requisitioned vehicles were admitted to Brahmanpara Upazila Health Complex.

Besides, another policeman has been admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital, he said.

Cumilla district Civil Surgeon Dr Md Niatuzzaman visited the health Complex around 1:00am to inquire about their treatment.

Azimul Ahsan, additional superintendent of police in Cumilla, told our Cumilla correspondent that all the unwell police personnel have been substituted by other policemen and Ansars from the reserve force. So, there would be no problem in performing the election duties.
