One killed, 37 injured in Barisal, Bhola
A man was killed 12 others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates in the upcoming election to Bhasanchar Union Parishad (UP) in Mehendiganj upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Samir Howlader, 35, son of Razzak Howladar of Madarbunia village in the upazila.
The clash ensued at around 7:00am when the supporters of chairman candidate Mujibor Rahaman led by Feroj Member swooped on the campaigners of AL nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Chunnu near Boroiya Madrasha at Madarbunia village.
The clash left Samir Howlader, one of the campaigners of Nazrul Islam, dead and 12 other from both sides injured.
The injured were admitted to Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Shawkat Anwar, officer-in-charge of Kazirhat Police Station.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups. The law enforcers arrested two people from the spot.
No case was lodged in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
Away in Bhola, At least 25 people were injured as the supporters of AL nominated chairman candidate Mohammad Shahjahan allegedly attacked the supporters of rebel candidate Mizanur Rahman Kamrul in Lalmohan union of Lalmohan upazila on Tuesday evening, reports UNB.
They also vandalised Kamrul's house and business establishment at Miar Haat in the union, assaulted RTV cameraman Yusuf and snatched his camera.
Cameraman Yusuf was admitted to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Bhola Sadar Hopsital.
Local journalists, members of Bhola Press Club and Bhola Reporters' Unity condemned the attack on Yusuf and demanded immediate arrest of the persons involved.
