Noted female freedom fighter Shirin Banu dies

Noted female freedom fighter Shirin Banu Mitil died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Dhaka early today. She was 65.

She breathed her last at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) around 1:30am, Sabrina Sohani, daughter-in-law of Shirin Banu, told The Daily Star.

She left behind her husband, two daughters, son and daughter-in law.

Her body has been kept at the Birdem Hospital mortuary and will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar and kept there for an hour from 10:00am tomorrow for people to pay tribute, said Sabrina.

She will be given a guard of honour. After namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka University, she will be buried at their family graveyard at Katabil in Comilla Sadar tomorrow. 

"She was absolutely fine. We had a family gathering and had dinner at a restaurant," Sabrina added.

As they went to their Indira Road residence around 10:45pm yesterday, she fell sick. She was immediately rushed to NICVD.

Doctors tried to provide treatment, but it did not work. She was declared dead around 1:30am today.
