No enrolment in 4 pvt medical colleges: Health ministry

The government today asked four private medical colleges not to enroll any student in the MBBS programme for 2016-17 academic sessions for violating code of conduct.

The colleges are Northern Medical College of Rangpur, City Medical College of Gazipur, Nightingale Medical College in Ashulia and Ashiyan Medical College in Dhaka, said a press release of Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

The ministry, on the basis of its inspection reports, took the decision at a meeting at the Secretariat with Health Minister Mohammed Nasim in the chair.

The academic activities of the medical colleges will be stopped if the authorities concerned are failed to comply with the conditions preserved in the private medical college policies, reads the press release.

"These so-called medical colleges either have no own buildings or required beds and medical equipment," an official who attended the meeting told The Daily Star.

State Minister for Health Zahid Malik, Health Secretary Sirajul Islam and Directorate General of Health Services DG Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present at the meeting.
