Neighbours said the gas cylinder exploded when Sheuly Begum, wife of Russel Mia, tried to light the burner at around 8:30 pm, and the fire soon engulfed the entire house, leaving nine people, including four children, burnt.

On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire with the help of locals.

"We think that the kitchen was already full of gas from the cylinder leak and the explosion occurred when Sheuly lighted the stove," he added.
