Netherland ambassador’s bag ‘stolen’ from DU

A handbag of Leoni Margaretha Cuelenaere, ambassador of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, was allegedly stolen in a programme on Dhaka University campus today.

The Netherland Ambassador took part in the programme to inaugurate a photo exhibition marking the 4th anniversary of Counter Photo at Fine Arts faculty of the university.

Nisar Hossain dean of the faculty told The Daily Star that the bag was stolen when she was lighting a lamp on the stage leaving her bag on chair around 5:00pm.

A youth was seen in a photo, taken by a photographer, carrying the bag in his hand, he said.

"I think that the thief is an outsider. We handed over the footage to Shahbagh Police Station to nab him," he added.

Abu Bakar Siddique, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said they are trying to nab him.
