Murder of Infant: 3 get life term jail

A court here yesterday sentenced three people to life term imprisonment in connection with a case for abducting and killing an infant boy for ransom in Morrelganj upazila in 2019.

The convicts were identified as Mohammad Hridoy alias Rahat Hawlader, 21, son of Moazzem Hossain, Mohiuddin Hawlader, 22, son of Jasim Hawlader, and Faizul Islam, 29, son of Abdur Rashid. They all hail from Nishanbaria village in the upazila.

Bagerhat Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Nure Alam also fined the convicts Tk 45,000.

In default, they are to suffer one year more in prison, Public Prosecutor Ranjit Kumar Mandal said.

According to the case statement, the convicts pricked up three-month-old Abdullah, son of Sirajul Islam Sohag of Bisharighata village, from his parents' bedroom in the early morning of March 11 in 2019.

Soon after the incident, Abdullah's father Sohag filed a case with Morrelganj Police Station in this connection.

Later in the same day, the gang called Sohag and demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom for his son's release.

Accordingly, Sohag paid the ransom money to the gang members, but they did not returned his son.

On March 13, police arrested Rahat, suspecting his involvement in the incident.

Later, according to his confession statement, police arrested two other accused involved in the incident and recovered Abdullah's body from a roadside toilet in Bisharighata area on March 17.

After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court on March 9 this year.

Meanwhile, father of the slain kid expressed his satisfaction over the court's verdict.
