Municipality election of Moulvibazar’s Baralekha to be held tomorrow
The municipality election of Moulvibazar's Baralekha will be held tomorrow through electronic voting machine (EVM).
The Upazila Election Office organised a mock vote yesterday so that voters could learn how to vote on EVMS. Only 1,500 voters out of 15,443 turned out for the mock vote.
BNP candidate Anwarul Islam alleged that most of the voters in every ward are uneducated and do not know how to use EVMs.
"Everyone knows about the previous elections where EVMs were used. The government is welcoming EVMs which have been rejected in the developed countries. This is something I really don't understand," he said.
Assistant Returning Officer and Barlekha Upazila Election Officer Sadiqur Rahman said that they have taken all necessary steps to hold a fair election.
"We have taught the voters how to vote using EVMs. I hope the voters will come to cast their votes on election day," he said.
Three candidates are vying for the post of mayor, 26 candidates for the post of general councilor and 11 candidates for the post of woman councilor.
According to the Upazila Election Office, the total number of voters in the nine wards of Baralekha Municipality is 15,443. Of them, 6,523 are male voters and 6,920 are female voters. Voting will take place in 43 polling booths in 10 centres of the municipality.
