Muggers kill fisherman in Bhola, 4 arrested

A fisherman was killed by a gang of muggers near Munsir Haat Bazar under Charfashion upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 30, son of Ahammad Ali Bepari of Char Nurul Amin of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Bashar of Charfashion Police Station said a gang of four muggers intercepted Mannan while he was returning home from the bazar at around 11:00pm.

As the muggers tried to take away money and mobile from him, he resisted them. At this, the gang hit Mannan with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.

Locals chased the muggers and caught one of the gang members named Habib while the rest three managed to flee. They later handed him over to the police.

On the basis of his statement, police arrested the remaining three from the area at around 2:00am yesterday.

The arrestees are Md Farid, 22, son of Abul Bashar of Char Nurul Amin village under Charfashion upazila; Md. Habib alias Mithu, 22, son of Md Zahid of Parha village under Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka; Md Shahjahan, 20, son of Md Manik Patwari of Baruipur village under Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district; and Mosharraf Suman, 24, son of Samsul Hoque of Binoychar village under Jamalpur district.

Police will produce the muggers before a court here today, the oc said.
