The High Court has refused to grant bail to Motaleb Mia Wasim, an accused in the case filed in connection with the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former superintendent of police (SP) of Chattogram Babul Akter.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order today after Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Santosh Kumar told the court that charge sheet of the case will be submitted to the trial court soon, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The Daily Star.

Motaleb Mia Wasim's bail petition had been kept in waiting for hearing for two months (stand over).

The DAG said IO Santosh Kumar, an inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), appeared before the HC bench today in line with its earlier directive.

The HC bench had earlier directed the IO to appear before it to inform them on the progress of investigation in the case.

The bench had passed the order last month during hearing the bail petition of Motaleb Mia Wasim as the accused said he has been suffering in jail for a long period of time but the charge sheet of the case was not submitted to the lower court.

DAG Sarwar said Motaleb Mia Wasim is an accused who gave confessional statement to the magistrate concerned.

On June 5, 2016, Mahmuda Khatun Mitu was stabbed and shot dead when she was walking her son to the school bus stop in the port city's GEC intersection.
