Migrant workers send over $3 billion more remittance in first five months of current FY
Migrant workers have sent over $3 billion in remittance in first five months of the current fiscal year than what they had sent at the same time in last FY, Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad said today.
Migrant workers remitted about $10.9 billion home between July and November this year, according to the ministry's data provided during a press conference held at its conference room today.
Addressing the press conference, Minister Imran Ahmad said the government will observe the International Migrants Day nationally on January 6 next year whereas the day has been observed globally today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join the programme as chief guest virtually, he said.
Responding to a query, Secretary Ahmed Munirus Saleheen of the ministry said at present the government has no pressure from any labour-receiving country for taking back Bangladeshi migrant workers.
